How to take care of your lawn in spring and throughout the year?

Publish date: 2019-03-21

Spring is plant care time. Most of us pay more and more attention to the immediate surroundings of the space in which we live. The most visible element of our immediate surroundings is the lawn. Depending on the substrate on which it grows, its condition after winter looks different. However, every spring lawn needs a few simple care treatments to please our eyes with juicy greenery for the rest of the season. Depending on what problem you encounter, use one of the proposed solutions:

Overwintering plants shed wilted and frozen leaves, which does not look good. React as follows:

  • Combing out the old dried remains after the end of the winter period will undoubtedly provide a quick visual effect and air the emerging canopy. For combing, ordinary rakes or specialized scarifiers are used.

  • Replenishment of possible losses after combing consists in the usual sowing of lawn fragments with simultaneous raking of the surface, rolling and watering, i.e. comprehensive care of sown fragments.

Moss appears between the plants and tries to dominate the main plant, so:

The soil has stored an excessive amount of water, which limits the access of air to the roots of plants, the lack of air limits their growth, therefore it becomes necessary:

  • Aeration - aeration of the lawn is a relatively simple procedure, it consists in puncturing the surface with, for example, pitchforks or spikes mounted on shoes or other methods in order to make as many holes as possible through which air can penetrate.
  • Sandblasting - consisting in filling the holes made with quartz sand. The treatment is to clear the holes made for continuous aeration of the root system and to facilitate the drainage of excess water.

After winter, the grass is sparse, brown, shows a complete lack of branching, then we use:

  • Lawn mowing - with the use of mechanical mowers, petrol mowers, manual trimmers, etc. allowing to obtain an even mowing surface. The first mowing should be done as short as possible, so as to stimulate the plants to intensive tillering.
  • Lawn irrigation - allows for additional density of plants even in periods of drought and prevents plants from falling out of the canopy even in unfavorable soil conditions.
  • Fertilization of the lawn - the lawn is like a living being, in order to do well, we must provide it with water and food. Water is the irrigation discussed above, and food is nothing but fertilizers.

The best offer for both amateurs and professionals is nitro 27%. Thanks to its comprehensive composition, we will obtain:

  • thickening the canopy and planting shrubs, our lawn will look like a brush,
  • we will supplement magnesium and calcium deficiencies, strengthen plants and give them vigor after winter dormancy,
  • we will deacidify the soil, because Saletrzak contains up to 7% of calcium ions,
  • we will eliminate the remains of dry stalks visible under the grass, because the canopy densified after fertilization will decompose the remains, mineralize them and use them to grow its organic mass,
  • Saletrzak applied in early spring will eliminate small losses of grass, through tillering and compaction of empty places.
  • will reduce the pressure of weeds because the dense canopy automatically displaces the intruder from the canopy.

Saletrzak should be used regularly throughout the growing season, on average every 2 to 3 months in the amount of about 1.5 kg per 100 m2 of lawn. We pour the fertilizer before the rain or before turning on the irrigation system so as to dissolve the scattered granules. It is very important to limit fertilization during several weeks of drought. In this case, the only solution is to water the lawn in the evening with simultaneous fertilization.

A lawn prepared for the season after a period of winter dormancy and regularly fertilized and watered can enjoy its greenery not only for us, but for generations of gardeners in our family. It is not without reason that the English say that a good lawn cannot be done by yourself, you have to inherit it at least from your great-grandfather.
