Hydrochloric acid is an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride, a gas with a sharp, suffocating smell, highly soluble in water. Highly concentrated, left in contact with oxygen, it forms dense, white, smoking fumes. The maximum acid concentration that can be achieved is 37%. When concentrated, it is a strong poison, causing immediate irritation of the mucous membranes. It has caustic properties, perfectly destroys sugar, fabrics or wood, causes burns.

In the metallurgical industry, it is used to clean metal surfaces and extract ores. Hydrochloric acid is also characterized by a bactericidal effect.
