Hydrogen peroxide is obtained by the anthraquinone method by oxidation. It occurs in concentrations of 35%, 50%. It has the form of a syrupy colorless liquid with a strong oxidizing effect. As an oxidant, it is used in the synthesis of peroxides. Thanks to its bleaching properties, hydrogen peroxide is used, among others, in in the pulp and paper industry. Commonly used by pulp mills as one of the chemicals for bleaching pulp. Bleaching is carried out using the ECF method (i.e. method without the use of elemental chlorine). The bleaching process uses chemicals such as chlorine dioxide, alkali to extract the dissolved lignin, hydrogen peroxide and oxygen to enhance the extraction step. In the rubber industry, hydrogen peroxide is used as one of the production ingredients. In the textile industry, it is used in the bleaching process of natural and artificial fibres. In household chemistry, hydrogen peroxide is used as a bleaching agent, an ingredient in the formulation of cleaning and bleaching agents. In much smaller amounts used in toothpaste or deodorants. Hydrogen peroxide plays an important role in the treatment of industrial wastewater by chemical oxidation. In the environmental protection process, it is used to neutralize wastewater. Water treatment with hydrogen peroxide is performed using the Fenton reaction. As hydrogen peroxide (3-12% solution), used in hairdressing as an effective hair lightening preparation.
